THINX and the Real (Bleeding) Girl

I swore off regular tampons years ago out of fear of potentially getting Toxic Shock Syndrome. The idea that something so little could turn around and harm me freaked me out so I switched to the safer, healthier Diva Cup. The Diva Cup is a menstrual cup that you can fold and insert kinda like a tampon to catch your blood. It's a little tricky at first, but after a couple of crying sessions, you eventually get the hang of it. I've been using my cup for years now and while I love it, I still use pads as backup in fear of leakage.

There's no way these could work for me. My flow is monstrous!

I started looking into pad alternatives when I found THINX, a period underwear company. “There's no way these could work for me. My flow is monstrous!” I thought. I scoured the Internet and read as many reviews as I could find and pretty much all of them were positive and some folks even dumped their current menstrual product in favor of the THINX underwear. Needless to say, I bought myself a pair.

THINX currently has six kinds of underwear ranging from thongs to hi-waisted undies. Each pair of undies holds a specific amount of blood. For example, the thong holds about ½ a tampon's worth. I purchased the hi-waisted pair that supposedly absorbs TWO tampons worth. Seemed like a pipe dream, but I had to find out for myself.

I am the one with a seven-day flow with three of those days being the heaviest.

I received my THINX undies lightning fast and immediately tried them out as my period had just started. I am not one of the lucky people with a three-day flow. I am the one with a seven-day flow with three of those days being the heaviest. I used to go through super tampons in a matter of hours before the Diva Cup. Even with the Diva Cup, I'd fill it up at an astonishing rate, hence why I had to have a pad for backup. For my THINX undies, I decided to try it out sans Diva Cup and I was honestly a little scared.

I kept my undies on for almost a full day and had absolutely NO LEAKAGE! I even napped in them and there was no random back leakage (you know what I'm talking about). The undies don't feel heavy before or after you start using them. They are incredibly flattering (my boyfriend loves the way they look) and comfortable. It feels like you're wearing a hybrid of regular underwear and swimwear... at least the hi-waist pair feels that way. I ended up taking them off so I could shower and switched back to my normal Diva Cup and pad routine. I could've probably kept them on way longer, but hygiene.

So, would I recommend THINX to everyone I know? Do they actually work, especially for heavier flows?

So, would I recommend THINX to everyone I know? Yes. Do they actually work, especially for heavier flows? Yes. THINX has won me over and I plan on buying some more hi-waisted undies as well as a few of the boyshorts. All in all, get yourself a pair. It's worth it.

Treat yo' self to a pair here.
