Braids & Ball Gowns: Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella

Brandy's braids, Whitney's curls, a racially diverse cast, and beautiful costume designs set Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella apart from all other adaptations.

Whitney Houston originally approached CBS about starring in a remake of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella in the early 90s but the project remained in development hell for years until it was eventually passed on to Disney for ABC. Although Whitney intended to portray Cinderella during its CBS days, she offered the lead role to Brandy, opting to play the Fairy Godmother instead.

Brandy became the first Black actress to portray Cinderella on screen.
